Shimjith, Arindam fashion big win for IISc

9th May, 2010, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: Shimjith and Arindam notched sparkling fifties in a match-winning third wicket stand of 118 runs to help IISc beat Jawahar Cricket Club by seven wickets.

Earlier, propped up by Basavaraj's innings of 48 runs and a couple of twenties in the middle order, Jawahar CC made 173/9 in their quota of 35 overs. Vikram excelled for IISc taking a three-for and effecting two run-outs. A special moment of the innings was when Arjun bowled Anil with a leg-spinner's dream ball - it was nicely flighted, pitched on leg-stump, the batsman stretched forward to defend, was beaten by the dip, the ball turned away and went on to hit the off bail. Ganapathy's catch running backwards from mid-on also deserves special applause.

IISc's reply started with an exquisite straight driven boundary by Shimjith on the very first ball of the innings. But soon Ganapathy nicked one to the keeper. Vikram biffed three boundaries in an over before he too nicked one. Then the duo of Shimjith and Arindam played maturely to bring up a century partnership at better than a run-a-ball. They shut Jawahar out of the game and helped IISc romp home with over ten overs to spare.

Brief scores:
Jawahar CC - 173/9 in 35 overs
(Basavaraj 48, Vikram 3/31, Dibyendu 1/21, Arindam 1/25, Arjun 1/30)
IISc - 174/3 in 24.3 overs
(Shimjith 64*, Arindam 59, Anil 2/22)

Result: IISc won by 7 wickets
Man-of-the-match: Arindam Ghosh
