22nd August, 2009, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: The fabled “Second Match Syndrome” caught up with IISc yet again to hand them a crushing defeat at the hands of Sangam Cricketers. The saving grace was that it was only a warm-up game before their second league match this year. Also, IISc experimented by playing all the players who were on the bench in the first league game and resting a few of the seasoned campaigners. Batting first, IISc caved in for a paltry 118 with only Shimjith (27) and Harish (34) providing some semblance of a fight. The visitors chased down the target with the help of a fluent fifty by Abhay. With the bad match gone by and a full-strength team available, IISc will hope to get back to their winning ways against New National Cricket Club (who have also won their first league match) on coming Saturday, 29th August, 2009.
Brief Scores:
IISc Gymkhana - 118/10 in 37.3 overs
(Shimjith 27, Harish 34, Raghavendra 5/22)
Sangam Cricketers - 119/4 in 28.3 overs
(Abhay 52, Bhaskar 2/9 )
Result: Sangam Cricketers won by six wickets
Man-of-the-match: Raghavendra
