2nd May, 2010, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: In one of the most exciting finishes in recent memory, IISc tied with Cavaliers Cricket Club (KSCA III Division) sending a warning signal to all upcoming KSCA IV Division opponents. IISc coach Sreedhar has often remarked that the brand of cricket that IISc has brought to the table in recent times is certainly better than what most IV Division teams can dish out. This performance would have made the III Division opponents nod in approval.
Put in to bat, Cavaliers were in for a surprise when Shafquat and Harshan strangled them for runs not conceding a single boundary in the first ten overs. Shafquat picked up an impressive three-for in only his second match for IISc, producing some sharp in-cutters that put the visiting batsmen in a lot of discomfort. The other bowlers also stuck to their job admirably. Cavaliers could hence manage a total of 163/7 in their 30 overs. Ajay's half century was the highlight of the innings for Cavaliers.
Facing a strong bowling attack, the chase didn't seem to be going well for IISc when they lost a couple of early wickets. Though none of the batsmen hit a fifty, there were useful cameos from a string of batsmen in the middle order that took IISc close to victory. In a nail-biting finish, IISc needed 28 runs from the last three overs, but could only manage 27 thus ending the match in a tie.
